The Problem With and What's Cool Is

So, I'm going to start blogging again - I know I've said it before but I mean it now - and I wanted to balance my concerns about certain things with some stuff that's really fun and cool in this world. So, I decided to have two sections to my Blog - The Problem With ... and What's Cool Is...

So here goes!

THE PROBLEM WITH...

Songs, usually by men, that criticize and demean women as a form of wooing is that I don't get that they don't get it. Take, for example, Yesterday Man by Roz Bell, where he swears at the object of his song and tells her that he's done some bad stuff but she's the one who's selfish if she doesn't take him back. Or Stronger by Kanye West, where he's trying to get a woman by telling her she's easy - "she'll do anything for a Klondike", should be subservient - we can "play secretary and the boss" and "we'll do everything that Kan like" - and the chorus features a line about O.J. Simpson. Oooh, baby! Sign me up. Not! Can someone explain how this is supposed to be an effective dating tool?

WHAT'S COOL IS...

Reba and Kelly!

Went to see Reba MacIntyre and Kelly Clarkson's Two Voices, Two Worlds last night (I think that's what is called). Amazing! Here are two women in different stages of life and career sounding absolutely fabulous, totally respecting each other's talents and singing each other's songs. Really cool concept and you can't go wrong with such incredibly talented people performing great music. If you get a chance to see it, I would highly recommend going!

Well, more next time. Have a great day all!

Join The Yes Revolution!

A PLEA FOR YES

This is a request to all inhabitants of the earth. Please, please start thinking yes instead of no.

There is so much focus in the media of late about the wars on terrorism, global warming and poverty just to name a few. Many people would contend that war is not the answer but this is how we deal with such situations in our society.

We wage war on them and this is precisely the reason why we are losing!
And the reason for this lack of progress? It is my belief that this could be attributed to two main factors. The first is the fact that it is generally more difficult to do something from a negative psychological place than from a positive one. When you are excited about something and see the potential joy in your action, don’t you feel you have more energy to carry out the task than when you are just doing something to avoid the opposite from happening? For a person who seeks to lose weight, do you think it is more motivating to be frustrated with their present appearance and to not wish to be like that anymore or to keep their eye on the lightness and increased energy they are going to experience in their new body?

The second contributing factor is based on the adage that “what we resist persists”. When we claim the world is a dangerous, violent, scary and unhealthy place to be and focus on this fact – even in the name of improving the situation – that is exactly what we will see more of. More danger, more violence. When someone on the news tell you that more women die of heart attacks than men or there is a 1 in 3 chance you will get cancer, what thoughts enter your consciousness? Exactly. You become filled with fear and all you can think about is the idea that you will likely die a horrible death before your time. The same goes for the reports with statistics claiming an increase in crime or other threats to safety. These are not hopeful visions conducive to a healthy body or mind.

Here is an everyday example. Have you ever had the situation where you are experiencing negative feelings surround common occurences like “I am always missing the bus” or “I can never find a parking spot” and you come across someone who claims not to have that problem at all? I have and I had the notion that this person might be sincerely deluding themselves because, well, everyone misses buses or has trouble finding parking on a frequent basis. But they may, in fact, have been right. And it is precisely because they don’t believe they have these problems that they do not exist. As a creative individual, I have often experienced crises of confidence. I tell myself that no one likes my work and why should I bother - all of that. But, you know, I firmly believe that, when I am having a good day and feeling like I do have something valuable to offer, the universe tends to agree with me. Little kudos begin to appear and the interest in my work increases. Coincidence? Perhaps but, even so, isn’t believing in yourself and having faith in others a much more pleasant way of moving through life?
This is not to say that the challenges facing us today are to necessarily be ignored. But we can affect greater change when we view these challenges as things of the past rather than ever-present plagues. Because that’s precisely what they will continue to be.

Our world is in serious need of positivity on so many levels. If the nos are counterbalanced by the yeses there will be such beauty and hope as we have never known! I urge you all to spend even a few moments every day contemplating the changes you wish to see in your life and in the environment around you in a positive light. Try using phrases like “I have” or “I see” instead of “I don’t want anymore of” or “I can’t stand” and watch what happens over time.

I would love to hear about some of the changes you experiences after trying this approach, so feel free to contact me through my web site, www.tiffanyprochera.com, and I will share them with others. If you find this message inspiring, please pass it on to your friends and spread it around!

Do not rage against that which do you not desire. Leap joyously towards that for which your heart truly longs. That is how miracles happen.

Let Your Little Light Shine

So, I had a situation today where I was in a room full of people I didn't know, sitting at a table with people who spoke a language I didn't fully understand. And,while I could have forced the issue, they had no apparent interest in including me in the discussion. I am not adverse to schmoozing but almost everyone was at a table with others and I did not wish to intrude on conversations. What's more, when I arose to grape a small plate of fruit, someone took my chair even though my coffee mug was on the table and my bright red purse on the floor. I felt very alone and undesired. It's at moments like this when we have to remember that we are all special beings full of light, love and beauty. We have to let our little lights shine and not allow how much or how little attention we are getting to affect our perceptions of ourselves. Despite the fact that this room did not have me as its focal point (not that that has ever been my goal in life) I know I have friends who welcome me with open arms and I am always the queen of my living room. All we can do is be as open to these souls as possible and not attempt to control how they will react to us because we just can't do it! It's impossible! But when we love ourselves the world will love us and, even if a few clueless folks do not, it's all about them anyway, right?

Hello all!

I hope you are having a wonderful start to the new year so far. It's kind of exciting how the time goes by and we always feel like we have the chance to start again. Things are always new!

I'm pretty excited these days because things seem to really be flowing. I seem to be getting what I need when I need it and, well, you know how it feels when things just click. I released a book before Christmas (A Candle at Both Ends) and the accompanying CD just arrived and I'm feeling good about it all. It's scary wondering how it's all going to pan out but I'm trying not to think about that. Just going day by day, you know? Do what inspires at the moment. That's what it's all about really.

Well, I just wanted to check in again because I haven't written in a while.
Have a fabulous day and feel free to check out my site, www. notalotabullpress.com for more info!
